A:日本のことを知っていますか。  B:はい、知っています。/いいえ、知りません。
A: Do you know about Japan?  B: Yes, I do. / No, I don't.
木下さんを知っていますか。
Do you know Mr. Kinoshita?
山口さんの電話番号を知っていますか。
Do you know Mr. Yamaguchi's telephone number?
A:中国語を知っていますか。  B:いいえ、知りません。
A: Do you know Chinese?  B: No, I don't.
私は上田さんがアメリカへ行ったことを知らなかった。
I didn't know that Mr. Ueda had gone to America.

Notes

1. 知る, a nonstative verb, takes the Verbている form when it means the stative 'know'.

2. When answering in the negative to the question Xを知っていますか 'Do you know X?', the negative nonstative form 知らない/知りません is used instead of 知っていない/知っていません, as in Key Sentence (B) and Example (c).
